At the AgroBioTech Research Center of SUA in Nitra, we welcomed students from North Carolina State University (USA), who, together with their lecturer Sebastian Wolfrum, are attending the Summer School of Brewing focused on malting, raw material processing, and practical demonstrations of beer production.
The Summer School of Brewing at the AgroBioTech Research Center was officially opened, and the students were welcomed to the center’s premises by the Director of RC ABT, Prof. Ing. Adriana Kolesárová, PhD. During the first week, the program began with laboratory instruction and a practical demonstration at the experimental brewery of RC ABT, where students experienced the barley malting process. In addition to the staff of the AgroBioTech Research Center, Ing. Štefan Dráb, PhD. from Heineken, and Ing. Miriam Solgajová, PhD. from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences at SUA in Nitra, also participated in the program, contributing their expert experience in brewing, technology, and raw material processing.
The program also included expert excursions in Slovakia and the Czech Republic – including visits to a brewery, malt house, roastery, fields, and winery.
The first week culminated in pilot-scale beer brewing directly in the experimental brewery. However, the expert program continues next week with further activities that connect research, practice, and international cooperation.
The combination of science, practice, expert experience, and international cooperation once again demonstrates that even traditional industries, such as brewing, possess strong research and innovation potential.
