The Research Centre AgroBioTech
The AgroBioTech Research Centre (ABT RC) of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra is a university-wide, specialized facility which performs concentrated innovative research in the relevant fields aimed at conducting new methods and procedures in research, especially within applied research, with the express goal of transferring its results into practice.
Establishment of the research center
ABT RC was established in 2015 under the project ITMS 26220220180 “Creation of the AgroBioTech Research Centre”, the Research and Development operational programme, priority axis 2 Support to Research and Development, measure Knowledge and Technology Transfer from Research and Development into Practice.
- The strategic goal of the project was to establish a comprehensive research, innovation, and competence regional center in the fields of agrobiology, agroecology, biotechnology, and bioenergetics.
- The project was implemented from April 2013 to November 2015.
The AgroBioTech Research Center is equipped with state-of-the-art research infrastructure, enabling high-level research applicable in practice, closely linked to the key needs of priority topics in agrobiology, agricultural product processing technology and agri-food, biotechnology, genetic technologies, agroecology, bioenergetics, and bioeconomy.

Our mission
The mission of the AgroBioTech Research Center is to serve as a regional center for applied research, integrating key research activities to achieve a synergistic effect in utilizing and enhancing the research potential of the Slovak University of Agriculture.
The role of the AgroBioTech Research Center is to conduct cutting-edge research, particularly research with a direct impact on societal practice, fostering innovations, developing modern technologies, and providing advisory services for the implementation of the research and development results of the AgroBioTech Research Center into practice.
The establishment of the AgroBioTech Research Center has become a stimulus for the implementation of top-quality scientific research and development activities, supported by excellent instrumentation, in an environment fostering collegiality, interdisciplinarity, and teamwork.
The AgroBioTech Research Center is an open workplace. Its infrastructure, including both equipment and personnel, can be utilized by SUA departments as well as other research and development entities for conducting research.

Establishment of the Center
Official establishment of the AgroBioTech Research Center (VC ABT) at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra.
2024
Launch of the Food Incubator
The food incubator was approved by the Regional Public Health Authority in Nitra as a facility for food production.

The AgroBioTech Research Center collaborates with Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and the Institute of plant genetics and biotechnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS).

Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra
Constantine the Philosopher University (UKF) is a leading educational, scientific, and artistic institution. It is named after an important historical figure of Nitra and Slovakia—Constantine the Philosopher (Saint Cyril, 827–869).

Institute of plant genetics and biotechnology SAS
The Institute of Plant Genetics and Biotechnology, part of the Plant Biology and Biodiversity Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, was established and constituted to address current research questions in the genetics and biotechnology of higher plants.
