Department of Biosystems Engineering
Department profile
The Department of Biosystems Engineering engages in a wide range of activities, primarily focusing on the production and utilization of biomass:
- studying the possibilities of using plant biomass for the production of pellets and briquettes,
- evaluating the qualitative parameters of the input raw material and the technological parameters of solid biofuel production,
- evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of the obtained products,
- designing machinery lines for the production of solid biofuels,
- evaluating the environmental aspects of biomass utilization for energy purposes.
The department is also actively engaged in research and innovation to push the boundaries in the field of bioenergy and ecological sustainability.
- Research in the field of biofuels, biolubricants, and bioenergy.
- Conducting experiments to evaluate the energy and environmental properties of ecological energy carriers.
The specialized Laboratory of Innovative Technologies in Plant Production utilizes data analysis and processing into information maps using Geographic Information Systems. It also builds a database of long-term monitored indicators for specific geographic locations.
The Laboratory of Physical Properties of Raw Materials and Food focuses on measuring and studying the effects of thermal stress and temperature on the physical properties of materials, including their impact on the quality of agricultural processes such as drying, sorting, and threshing.
The acquired knowledge is directly applicable in agricultural production, research and development work, and the management of agricultural machinery. The outputs can be utilized in the form of developing methodologies for implementing precision agriculture systems or as consultancy for specific problem areas.
